New Train: Kato P42 Amfleet & Viewliner Phase IV Locomotive and 5-car set

This is an awesome set, but of course its Kato so it is expected.

This set comes in a book...

The details are amazing just look at this fan.

But looks aren't everything this loco runs smooth as silk, Under the hood it almost the same as some of the other Kato P42s except this ones shell is held on by some tabs on the inside. So to remove the shell you have to spread apart at the bottom from the middle.

When I convert this awesome loco to DCC I will be adding the red lights, which unfortunately are fake. It comes with some air hoses as you can see but they aren't that great but I'll probably just use them anyway.

And here it is, the Amfleet cars, this is probably the main reason I got the set. The only other cars I've seen these in N scale by was Bachmann and I'm done with them. So this is great that Kato Decided to make this awesome set.

The Viewliners:

I am going to have some fun with this one, I think I will end up putting in the Digitrax Drop-in Sound Decoder. Of course When I Get the DCC system I will be putting that proccess up here!

Totally recommend Getting this one: MSRP at $250 but if you look around you can get a great deal! Hint Hint...

Update: Mainline Almost Complete

The mainline now runs in a complete loop and is powered, almost ready to go. I have some turnouts on the way then I can attach the final sections of track. I have also started planning out what I'm going to do with the rest of the space.

Above is part of a yard and where my train shops will go, got the idea from here.
Below is the other half of the layout with the mainlines.

I've been messing around with a tortoise and made a temporary control panel with a switch for main accessory power and a switch for the turnout that leads the the programming track.

I also have the new Kato Amtrak set coming in, I'll post some pics and video when it comes in.

Update: Incline

I realize now that doing that incline by stacking foam and slopping the joint compound on was a horrible idea... For the rest of the incline I will take one piece of foam and attach at the low point and then attach at the high point giving me a nice smooth incline.

P.S. The main line is almost complete. Pics soon and I'm trying to get a hold of the Northstar train but I'm going to have to order the loco from the hobby shop because nobody has it in N Scale for some reason. A guy at my local hobby shot got one for himself and showed it to me, its awesome.

Update: Incline and track bed

OK, so I kind of winged it on the benchwork... And its still not done, I need to add some cross bracing to the legs to make it a little more sturdy.

I used a lot of wood from previous projects that I no longer had use for.

Its a mess... But its still in progress...

I decided that instead of covering the entire to with foam I would just raise up the areas that I want so I can add low spots in the future if I want. So with the foam I'm gluing it down with silicone and then patching up the cracks with joint compound. I might just use joint compound instead of plaster for the majority of things. It sticks very well to the foam.

Below is the incline, it should be about a 4% grade. It is made out of layers of foam and joint compound to smooth it out. It is going pretty well so far but it is taking a long time... I realize now this was a bad idea...

The turnout you can see here is where the track will run off the layout and to the desk I built.

I used joint compound and foam to create the rock edge. I'm planning of having ATSF, BNSF, maybe BN, but defanetly CP, SOO, and some Amtrak. And I really want the Santa Fe Elcapitan.

This passed by the house today... It was CP, SOO, SOO, and CP.
